Winchester Racquets and Fitness hosted the second Centenary Tennis Clubs of UK & Ireland tournament on Saturday 8th September. The event was a great success with the excellent weather making it a particularly enjoyable day for everyone who took part.
There were 4 teams participating; Winchester, Roehampton, Edgbaston Priory, and a combined team comprised of players from two Dublin clubs, Carrickmines and Fitzwilliam. Each team had 16 players – made up of men’s and ladies pairs in 1st team category, 3rd team category, 45+ vets category and 55+ vets category.
Each team played against each other in their respective categories in a round robin format, with the winners as follows:
Mens 1st Team – Carrickmines and Fitzwilliam
Ladies 1st Team – Edgbaston
Mens 3rd – Carrickmines and Fitzwilliam
Ladies 3rd – Edgbaston
Mens 45s – Winchester
Ladies 45s – Winchester
Mens 55s – Winchester
Ladies 55s – Roehampton
Overall winners based on finishing positions across all categories were Roehampton.
Following the day’s play, participants and their partners enjoyed a celebration evening dinner with special guests Mr. Juan M. Tintoré, President of the CTC together with CTC secretary Berta Tintoré. Also present were representatives of event sponsors EFG International and also the chosen charity for the event – the Jubilee Sailing Trust. A contribution from the day was also presented to the charity.
