CTC SUPER-SENIORS LEIMONIAS

The Haagshe Lawn Tennis Club Leimonias hosted the third edition of the CTC’s Super-Seniors competition in The Hague during the weekend of August 31 – September 1, where the club welcomed teams from Cumberland, Carrickmines and RCTB 1899.

The players were warmly welcomed with an official dinner where the club’s President, Ms. Nanette Farwerck extended a warm welcome to the players, and the Secretary of the Centenary Tennis Clubs on behalf of the CTC President Mr. Juan M. Tintoré extended the organisation’s gratitude to the host club and offered a special drawing by the Olympic artist Mr. Aluma.

Play started on a sunny Saturday morning with the following ties, RCTB 1899 vs. Cumberland and Leimonias vs. Carrickmines. The Club from Barcelona managed to win all eight matches including the mixed doubles, ending the tie with a 8-0 score, while the tie between Carrickmines and Leimonias could not have been any closer with a score of 4-4, with the visiting team eventually on top after counting the sets.

The finals of Sunday saw some very close matches between the club from Ireland and the Barcelona club, with the Spanish team declared the winner by a score of 6-2. The host club ended in third place, with fourth position for Cumberland.

Leimonias took care of every little detail for the visitors including some social tennis, which was appreciated by all the partners. Visitors were able to enjoy local customs, including a musical evening on the canals on Saturady evening.

The prizes were offered by former president of the club, Mr. Willem de Vries, who expressed the club’s gratitude for having the opportunity to participate in CTC events. The weekend was a perfect opportunity to play some good tennis and make new CTC friends, and all the participants expressed their interest in joining future editions.
