The Athens Lawn Tennis Club, as a proud member of the Association of Centenary Tennis Clubs (CTC), organised a senior’s tournament during the weekend of 27-29 September 2019. The participating CTC clubs were: Tennis Club Genova 1893 (Italy), Kungliga Lawn Tennis Klubben (Sweden), Carrickmines Croquet & Lawn Tennis Club (Ireland) and the host team.

The draw gave rise to opening matches between ALTC vs Carrickmines and KLTK vs Genova 1893. At the end of a sunny day with quality tennis, Athens and KLTK were to proceed to the final phase by scores of 5-1 and 6-3 respectively. On the second day, Genova 1893 clinched third place by overcoming Carrickmines (5-2) and the hosts defeated KLTK by the narrowest of margins (5-4). The play definitely kept the audience in suspense until the very end, where victory was earned by the hosts at the match tie-break of the ultimate match, which was a mixed-doubles.

This year’s event was once again testament to the positive values of sport e.g. tennis and brought people together in the spirit of friendship and respect. Everyone agreed it was one of the most interesting and exciting tournaments that had taken place at the host club.
