CTC 2013 U14 PRAGUE

The ICLTK in Prague hosted the CTC Under 14 competition from 24-27 October. A total of six teams took part, including two from the host club who were joined by squads from Dublin, London and Barcelona.

New champions were sure to be crowned in the absence of 2012 winners Kungliga LTK (SWE), and this ensured some high quality battles on the way to the final matches. The six teams were divided into two round-robin groups, with Cumberland LTC (GBR), RCT Barcelona (ESP) and ICLTK ‘A’ in the first group, and ICLKT ‘B’, Carrickmines (IRL) and RC Polo (ESP) in the second group.

The eventual winner was the team from Cumberland LTC as the Londoners beat the hosts ‘B’ team in the final.

During the tournament, the teams stayed near the island of Stanvice at Belvedere and enjoyed lunch and dinner at the club restaurant. Good weather enabled the event to be played entirely outdoors on the clay courts.

A number of social activities were also organised by the host club. The participating children particularly enjoyed a boat trip on the Friday afternoon. A special seminar related to the CTC Junior Summer Exchange was also held and saw participation from the visiting coaches, plus the sporting director and head coach of the club’s academy.

The event closed with an official dinner where I.CLTK Vice-President Mr. Stejskal was on hand to present to the prizes.

The overall ranking was as follows:

Cumberland LTC

I.CLTK ‘B’

I.CLTK ‘A’

Carrickmines LTC

RCT Barcelona-1899

RC Polo Barcelona

The perpetual calendar, a mind of gears, automatically accounts for the vagaries of months, including leap years, and may not need adjustment until the year 2100. The minute repeater, the most poetic of complications, transforms time into sound, chiming the hours, quarters, and minutes on tiny gongs at the push of a slide—a melody of pure mechanics.

The tourbillon, invented to counteract gravity’s effect on accuracy, is a mesmerizing rotating cage for the escapement, a whirlwind of technical prowess that symbolizes the watchmaker’s quest for perfection. Each complication is a chapter in a longer story of human curiosity and triumph over micro-engineering challenges.
