The Tennis Club Guayaquil was the winner of the first CTC tournament to be celebrated in Ecuador, which was held from 12 to 15 April, 2018. The host Club emerged as champion in the two different categories (Over 45 and Over 55) following a weekend of spirited competition from some of the country’s most illustrious clubs.
The tournament format saw two singles and one doubles match played per tie, with a total of four players per team. In total, the event saw a total of 112 players in action from 15 of the 24 most traditional clubs in Ecuador.
The full list of participating clubs is as follows: Guayquil Tenis Club, Club Tuntgurahuense, Bahia Tenis Club, Cuenca Golf & Tenis Club, Quito Tenis & Golf Club, Guayaquil Country Club, Ambato Tenis Club, Club Nacional, Portoviejo Tenis Club, Club Los Chillos, Umiña Tenis Club, Club Naval, Salinas Golf & Tenis Club Milagro Tenis Club and Club Albotenis.
The organization, led by the current President of the Ecuadorian Tennis Federation, Mr. Danilo Carrera, was able to count on the support of the national lottery to stage the event. The event was a celebration of Ecuadorian tennis, and the organisers made special recognition of the Ecuadorian clubs with most tradition; Turgurahua Tenis Club (founded in 1903 and currently with 115 years), Bahia Tenis Club (founded in 1922 and 96 years old), Cuenca Tenis & Golf Club (founded in December 1928, close to 90 years of history), Quito Tenis Club (founded in 1930, 88 years), Guayaquil Country Club (founded in 1933, currently with 85 years).
The former President of the Ecuadorian Tennis Federation, Mr Guzman will travel to Barcelona on occasion of the 2018 Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell to report on the success of the Competition.
