Founded in 1913, Biarritz Olympique Tennis et Padel traces its roots to the merger of two clubs created in the mid-to-late 19th century: the Biarritz Country Club, founded by foreigners, and the Biarritz Sporting Club, founded by locals. The ground on which we stand today was originally used as a horse-riding and shooting area.
A lasting symbol of our journey through time is La Villa Rose (The Pink Villa), built around 1861 by Don José Aguilera. His name lives on today, as Aguilera is also the name of the sports complex we share with the historic Biarritz Olympique Rugby Pays Basque.
The club has always been competitive at the national level, in both men’s and women’s competitions, and has long been a place where players grow and develop. As a true sporting hub of the city, we now welcome 1,374 members, with a strong balance between men and women, adults and juniors.
Fun fact: last year, we reached a perfectly symmetrical total of 1,390 members — 695 men, 695 women, 695 adults and 695 children. A rare balance worth mentioning!
With 13 tennis courts, including 11 clay courts (4 of them indoor) and 2 GreenSet courts, as well as 3 semi-covered padel courts, our club has become a reference for the quality of its clay courts. Given our region’s unpredictable weather — often compared to the United Kingdom or Ireland, where all four seasons can occur in a single day — having such facilities allows our members to play year-round, whatever the conditions.
Last but not least, the club proudly hosts an ITF W100 tournament each spring, with the ambition of promoting women’s tennis by welcoming top international players to Biarritz.
