Introduction of the Tokyo Lawn Tennis Club

Founded in 1900, the Tokyo Lawn Tennis Club began as an inspiring vision shared by a group of tennis enthusiasts from both Japanese and international circles, including diplomats and other distinguished figures. United by their love for the game, they sought to create more than a place to play tennis. They created a community built on mutual respect, friendship, and the belief that sport can connect cultures and foster international goodwill.

Throughout its history, the club has navigated periods of significant change, enduring wars, natural disasters, and social transformation. Its continued existence has been made possible by the resilience and dedication of its members, along with the longstanding support of the Imperial Family. In particular, the years following World War II were a defining moment. During this challenging time, the generosity and commitment of many helped restore the club and reaffirm its founding mission: to promote tennis in Japan while strengthening international understanding through the game. Their efforts laid the groundwork for the vibrant and inclusive club we know today.

Now, 125 years later, the spirit of our founders continues to thrive. Tokyo Lawn Tennis Club remains a place where tradition and modernity coexist naturally. Our membership includes members of the Imperial Family, diplomats, and a diverse mix of Japanese and international members. Across generations and cultures, tennis serves as a meaningful bridge, promoting friendship, dialogue, and a strong sense of community both on and off the court.

Nestled in the tranquil surroundings of Arisugawa in central Tokyo, the club offers a rare environment where members enjoy year-round tennis alongside an active and welcoming club life. Our courts bring together former Davis Cup and Billie Jean King Cup players, national champions, senior competitors, juniors, and everyday tennis enthusiasts. This unique blend creates a dynamic, multi-generational atmosphere where experience is shared and passion for tennis is nurtured.

As custodians of a rich and evolving legacy, we are committed to preserving the unique customs and traditions that define Tokyo Lawn Tennis Club, while also welcoming new generations and perspectives.

We are deeply honored to have been welcomed as a member of the Centenary Tennis Clubs. Being part of this distinguished international community reaffirms our founding ideals and strengthens our commitment to global friendship through tennis. We look forward to welcoming fellow CTC members to our club and engaging actively with the organization to further strengthen international connections and lasting friendships through our shared love of the game.
