Six clubs from Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland took part in a special day-long competition hosted by the Roehampton Club in London on 3rd September.
The tournament was played with a round robin format, with each team fielding fourteen players, who participated in doubles matches according to age groups. The full list of participating clubs was as follows; Cumberland Lawn Tennis Club, Edgbaston Priory Club, the Queen’s Club, Winchester Tennis & Squash Club, Roehampton Club, Carrickmines Croquet & Lawn Tennis Club and Fitzwilliam Lawn Tennis Club.
After summing up points earned across all categories the host club, Roehampton, was crowned as champion, though several other teams put in notable performances. The Cumberland Club fielded a particularly strong women’s team, while the Irish clubs did well in the men’s matches.
All of the players in attendance made a contribution to Tennis First (www.tennisfirst.org.uk), a charity that supports promising young tennis players.
The event was supported by the CTC’s principal partner EFG, and concluded with a special performance from dancer Katriona Taylor. The Centenary Tennis Clubs Association Chairman Juan Maria Tintoré travelled from Barcelona to attend the tournament and present prizes.
