Great tennis clubs require both leadership and management

The European Club Management Association (CMAE), which recently became the preferred educational partner of Centenary Tennis Clubs, was our contributor to the latest online colloquium held on Thursday, 11 June.

After a brief introduction to the CMAE by its CEO, Torbjörn ‘Toby’ Johansson, Darshan Singh, a global HRM consultant, led the session on ‘Leadership Mindset’.

From the very start of the session, there was constant interaction with the participants. The session aimed to help them understand what a leadership mindset is, differentiate between management and leadership, learn how to apply a leadership mindset in their club, and create actionable leadership strategies for their club.

Singh defined a leadership mindset as the ability to influence and inspire others. The question of why this matters is important because it improves member retention, builds stronger relationships, develops staff and volunteers, and creates a positive club reputation and a happy place to work.

«Great tennis clubs require both leadership and management. Managers maintain systems and operations, while leaders motivate, inspire, and create growth’, said Singh, who also demonstrated to those in attendance how to apply a leadership mindset.

After some minutes of questions and answers, the session came to a close, and it was highly praised by those in attendance.
