Two great clubs from Barcelona, the Real Club de Polo de Barcelona and the Real Club de Tenis Barcelona 1899 have joined forces once again to host the celebratory event of the 50th anniversary of the Potter Cup and the Two Presidents Cup, also called, Gran Premi Generalitat de Catalunya, Campionat Internacional de Catalunya de Veterans. The Potter Cup, Two Presidents Cup is an IC annual event where the best seniors’ players men over 45 and ladies over 40 travel to Barcelona to play the best tennis seniors player on clay anywhere in the world.
As is tradition, the event kick-started with a fun clinic in which participants were joined on court by players from the Acell Federation, which provides opportunities for local players with intellectual disabilities.
This edition finished with a double historic victory for IC Spain. The men’s team retained the title in the Potter Cup, while the women’s team, which also played at the RCTB-1899 facilities, lifted the Two Presidents Cup, an unprecedented milestone to date. The team made up of former world veterans’ champion Roberto Menéndez, Albert Costa, José Maria Vicente, Jonathan García-Leo, Eduardo Sanz, Xavier Llucià, Iván Angulo, Bruno Barrientos and Antonio Díaz won the Potter Cup after beating IC Germany 5-0 in the final. Having the experience of former Davis Cup and Roland Garros champion Albert Costa in their ranks was a plus for the home team. The other participating teams were ranked IC France fourth position, IC USA fifth position, IC Great Britain sixth position, IC Belgium seventh and IC Ireland eight.
